Intravenous (IV) administration of nutrients such as electrolytes, antioxidants, essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals has many benefits. Nutrition from the foods you eat and additional supplements you may take cannot be used by your body unless they are absorbed.
Absorption of nutrients take place in your digestive tract, specifically by your small intestine, where they pass into your bloodstream to be delivered to the rest of your body. For a variety of reasons, such as the combination of food you eat together, or disturbances in your stomach and intestinal tract, nutrients may not be absorbed completely. Providing nutrients directly to your bloodstream enables them to be utilized fully.
Malabsorption (not-absorbed fully) of nutrients leads to health challenges such as osteoporosis, anemia, lack of energy, skin problems, and weakened immune system.
Indications for Nutrient Infusion:
- Gastric Bypass or Gastric Sleeve
- Crohn’s disease
- Irritable Bowel
- Weak or compromised immune system
Infusions of vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and electrolytes you may be lacking due to dietary insufficiencies.
At Integrative Headache Care, those who desire nutritional IV therapy will receive a consultation with our Registered Nurse provider to obtain your medical history and current symptoms. The proper substances are then prescribed by Dr. McCoy. Of course, nutritional intravenous infusions prescribed to you by another physician can also be administered here.
Your insurance company will most likely pay for hydration and IV therapies attached to a clinical diagnosis. Health maintenance nutrient infusions such as the Myer’s Cocktail are not covered by insurance, thus are paid in full by you. When you call to inquire about these infusions, our Registered Nurse will speak with you about your needs and fully inform you of the cost before making your appointment. Certain basic IV solutions are a fixed cost. Price may vary if you desire additional substances like amino acids and antioxidants.
